Hello

First I want to say that I have moved several times, Windows from one computer to another computer. From one HDD to another HDD.

I use dd comand in Linux or acronis images. Everything was OK and Windows works well.

Now I try to move windows from HDD to usb-memory in the same PC(same hardware). I created image file as alwasy, copied to usb and then in Bios I change to boot from usb-memory. I see that Windows try to load, but in loading, in furst few seconds, restarts and never loads.

From hdd to hdd, I had never problems. But from hdd to usb-memory..., I tried several times, and I cananot still do it. It restarts.

Any idea or help will be appreciated.

No. My problem is other.

I try to copy working windows from HDD to another HDD. I did it several times and it works. I copied it using acornis.

Now I tried to copy windows from HDD to usb-drive. (Flash drive).

I copied it and windows tried to load from flash drive (Windows is yet copied in flash drive).

Windows load a little, but in the very few seconds, it stops loading and restart.

I try to copy working windows with programs from one computer to other. From 1 hdd to other, or from 1 hdd to flash drive.

Not to istall windows from USB to HDD. Just copy working windows.

Any idea why it fails when I try to copied it to USB flash?

Running Windows from an external HD is possible.Maybe not feasable.

I have never tried it myself because of the negetive side effects reported-slow response, manual backups of system hive, and the fact that it will have to be reactivated if you try to use it on another machine (just to name a few) seems to be a liitle too much hassle for me.

I do understand that if you connect the external with a SATA/IDE cable things run a lot smoother.

Perhaps I'll give it a whirl some day when I run out of rosin for me bow....

Good luck.
