hostnik
I have the possibility to buy an upgrade license for Windows 7 Professional quite inexpensive. The problem is that I don't have the basic version. Is it legal to buy some old used (actually the seller states it is unused) license for win95 or winXP, and use Win7 upgrade license on it?Thank you for answers. Digerati
Only XP and Vista can be used to qualify for a Win7 upgrade. As far as buying a qualifying version, note that only retail versions are transferable. This means the version of XP you buy to qualify you for the upgrade MUST be a full retail version of XP and it MUST NOT be installed on any other computer. OEM licenses are not transferable and are intended to be sold with hardware. So if that seller is re-selling an OEM version, used or not, it is not likely legal unless he is selling you new hardware to go with it.

hostnik
One more thing - if I get some retail XP license and I get this Win7 upgrade DVD - do I need to install XP first and then Win7 upgrade? Or can I install Win7 right away with upgrade media? Do I need to enter XP license details somewhere?
