Windows XP Updating Failes

Hi I need to be excused for my lack of english writing, I am from Iceland and have another main language.

Anyway my problem is related to Windows xp Updating Service

I had a problem for a while ago accessing the Windows Updating Service so I managed to get a friend to help me with finding the solution wich was installing an Antivirus and a antispyware. Cleaned it from everything and restarted and scaned it again before trying to connect with the Windows Updater. So after that I got access to the updating page and got a list of around 60-70 recommented updating packs and downloaded them and got them installed and then restarted the Computer. Then when ready to sign in on Windows Live Messenger it won´t allow me to sign in, comes with some regestry error witch I have solved but then I check if Windows Updater has forgotten some updates so I check again and I choose Custom this time to get the complete list, there are 6 software optional updates for me and one hardware optional update so I choose them all, I can download those updates but it will not get innstalled so it failes and I have tryed with and without firewalls/antivirus on.

I am desperate for some solution.

There comes a time when repairing and patching a computer is more trouble than it is worth. I think this is one of those times.

I had a similar problem with XP failing to install updates due to a corrupt install of one of the NET Framework versions. It was impossible to correct the corrupt installation because of certain other updates already being there and therefore the whole setup was doomed to remain out of date.

To save a lot of patching and repairing, I saved all the important files and carried out a fresh install of the operating system.

Go to http://www.update.microsoft.com/ and click on Update History. This will give you a complete list of all successful and failed updates. Click on the red x with a question mark beside it to get the error code of the failure. This will help to find the cause for the failure.

When the updater fails this page apears in browser (see attached first screenshot)

When gone to "Review update History" the page in browser shows no failed updating atempts only sucsessfull ones (see attached second attached screenshot). Office got the updates with the automatic update last night because they are categorized as "Express Updates" those who keep failing are custom one so the Automatic Updating switch does'nt recognize them as not needed for me in some way but still they will allways apear when I let the Updater screen the computer for new improoved updates.

When looking throug the failed atempts list there are no error codes or even a link to a known problem so I am taking this as a sign of unknown fault/error with no known resolvable instructions.

You could try the "Fix" options for Windows Updates in THIS free tool.

Start using WSUS OFFLINE UPDATE

Or backup all of your files and folders, format the disk, and re-install Windows XP like Pops has suggested. (YOUR GUIDE)

Get back to us when you have tried at least one (Preferably all 3 :) ) of the above options.
