RobertG Posted January 5, 2011 Report Share Posted January 5, 2011 Howdy,I'm somewhat new to Windows 7. I'm in the process of loading my programs and such on a fresh computer. My Palm Desktop software works just fine with 7. I can copy my database from the old computer (XP) and it works just like it should. Everything works except being able to hotsync with my PDA (yeah, I know, get a smart phone but I'm not ready to turn loose of my PDA yet). I have the Hotsync Manager configured for USB connection but the PDA is basically invisible to it. The Palm Desktop version is 4.1.4 and the PDA is a Palm Tungsten E2.I tried loading the Palm software in my XP Mode but it wouldn't hotsync there, either.Has anyone had any experience with this and if you have, what did you do about it?Thanks. Digerati Posted January 5, 2011 Report Share Posted January 5, 2011 I had the same problem with my T|X, which I refuse to give up until it dies. It seems since Palm sold the software side off and went to the new OS, the new owners have failed to keep older versions updated. If you are using 64-bit Windows 7, it is even more of a problem. The problem is hotsyncing via USB cable is no longer supported in Windows 7. But all is not lost. You can still hotsync via IR, Bluetooth, and if your PDA supports 802.11b/g, you can use wifi. That's what I do, but I don't think the E2 has wifi, only Bluetooth for wireless. So, check your manual for Bluetooth syncing. For additional help, the Palm Support site has Vista and Windows 7 Hotsync guides here. I think you want the one titled "Windows 7 and Vista hotsync instructions here". In it, there's a thread by Pre p100eww (Sprint) that tells how to do it called "Windows 7 and Vista hotsync instructions here". It works through XP Mode following instructions provided by another person called Candrews which he had posted. My system is 64-bit and it works good. I had tried XP Mode before but there is a certain sequence to get it to work the first time. Thank you for the great support.Added: I forgot to mention that the hotsync was done via USB.
