Sound Setting Problem

I have installed windows 2000/win 98 on my system but while playing audio/video files it plays in faster speed as compared to normal. i.e. audio/video files play a bit faster than normal speed.

my system configuration is 866 Pentium III with 128 MB RAM.

any help/suggestion/guidelines to fix this probelm or rectification

just as a matter of interest, what player do you use to play your audio files?? Also, are video files ok
