Log on account issue for a service accessing DivX registry in Server 2

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

recently I have been put on a trouble-shooting task to investigate causes that a conversion service written by our developers utilising DivX fails to open registry DivX4Windows on a 2008 R2 64 bit machine.

Eventually if I change the log on account of the service from 'Local System Account' to the current logged-in user, in my case the admin account, the conversion seems to run smoothly without the issue anymore.

It seems a permission issue to me as in 2008 R2 the local system account service can not open the existing DivX registry. It also sounds to me that it is an issue more likely caused by the Windows than DivX.

I am very keen to know why this issue occurs only in this case, i.e. the log on account of the service stays with the Local System Account for running the conversion service without a problem in other server platforms including 2008 and 2003.

Any idea?
