Hello all,

I just had a question and was wondering if you'd be able to help. My dad was interested in purchasing Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently purchased Windows 7 Ultimate. If he did purchase Windows 7 Home premium, and I put in the Windows 7 Ultimate disc, and he used his Home Premium key, would we be able to install Ultimate on his computer using his key?

So, now that you have admitted that you and your dad are conspiring to commit fraud, my advice to you is to live with your current versions of Windows 7 or go buy a legitimate license for the version you want to use and quit trying to cheat the system.

Dude, read before you reply. Nobody said we're STEALING software. I HAVE a LEGITIMATE license for Windows Ultimate, which I BOUGHT, as I said I "recently PURCHASED Windows 7 Ultimate." I also said "if he PURCHASED it, meaning if he LEGITIMATELY purchased a copy of Windows Home Premium" How do you get fraud out of what I asked? My key is legit. All I was wondering was if his key would work on Windows Ultimate? Obviously, it's a "no"

The whole thing regarding legality is moot, as Microsoft is protecting itself against theft using the Activation technique. So you cannot use a product key from one product to another. And since you have only asked, and don't see you having committed fraud or conspiracy.

A license key is tied to the Version of Windows purchased.ie.,if you purchase a key for Starter,only Starer can be activated with that key.If it is a Professional key,it will only activate Professional.And so on.

All versions of Windows-not Enterprise-are embedded into Windows install media.You can create a universal install disk by which you can choose which version to install.However,the license key determines the version that will be activated as Genuine.
