Not all the time I might add!I get messages about crash dumps and a line that says: Stop: 0x00000008E 0x00000005 0x00000000 0xB6548BD4 0x00000000 Is there an obvious solution to this?Any help gratefully acceptedRunning Windows 7 with 3GB RAM and about 170 GB hard disk space free on a Medion E5218 Notebook.CheersGordy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm a bit concerned that one of the possible options mentioned as a possible cause, is AVG! Guess which Anti-virus I'm using! Similarly, the graphics adaptor possibility fills me with horror, as the last time I allowed Windows Update to automatically install their latest recommended graphics Adaptor Update, I ended up with a black screen with just the moise pointer showing, although I could hear the various programs announcing their installation, albeit invisibly. MANEMAN Posted January 21, 2011 Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 The only thing that is slightly unusual is that you are getting this problem at shutdown.This particular DLL usually gives problems at startup.There could well be a DLL conflict going on, perhaps with some software that you have recently installed ?Although it says that Halmacpi.dll is causing the problem, many times some of the files that it is receiving instruction from are the real culprits. So you can often expect to be searching in a little cluster of files to find the real problem, not just the one the mini-dump is reporting.Can you remember when it first started happening Gordy ? I'm wondering whether it would be worthwhile just trying a "System Restore" if you can recall a date, near to when it started happening.Also try pulling all the USB plugs out of their sockets just before closedown, and see if it still happens.There are some pitfalls, and things that can make you want to tear your hair out when replacing DLL's especially in Windows 7 Gordy. gordythegouge Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 23, 2011 Well.........I've been on the Medion website and updated VGA drivers, RealTek sound etc. and so far I haven't had a repeat perfomance. I have balked at downloading the chipset updates,as, if it ain't broken...why fix it? Similarly I haven't downloaded the Intel 4 chipset upgrade that Windows insists might be good for my computing experience, having downloaded it twice before and installed ( the second time to isolate what the problem was!) with appalling results, loss of screen except for the mouse pointer, I've going to keep my powder dry and wait and see. I know, it's a bit timid but I really don't have the time to waste at the momentMeanwhile, thanks for all the advice.
