Moatender Posted January 23, 2011 Report Share Posted January 23, 2011 I'm running Windows XP Professional and use it to copy .jpeg files from an SD card to My Pictures. Just recently I have noticed that transferring files in this way has started taking considerably more time to complete because when each file on the SD card is accessed the system opens the Autorun screen and appears to search displaying the 'torch' moving icon. After a while the screen closes and the file is moved as I wish. Each .jpeg file is about 5Mb in size. How can I stop the system trying to autorun these files? Although I can find no reason for it to have started, this problem has only occured fairly recently and the only change that I have made is to use a new camera to create the files, albeit larger files than I used to produce with the old camera.Anyone help please? MANEMAN Posted January 24, 2011 Report Share Posted January 24, 2011 You need to disable "Autorun" Feature in XP.Or at least have the ability to "Enable/Disable" at your will. Go to this link: How to disable the Autorun functionality in Windows If you scroll about a third of the way down the page you will find two images named "Microsoft Fixit"You can either run these files or save them to your hard disk for future use.You will now be able to enable/disable autorun as you wish.There are other ways of doing this selectively for different drives or inputs as you will see from the article. I have chosen this as perhaps the quickest fix for you, and is reversible if you wish other drives to autorun.You may wish to start altering registry settings to customize to your own wishes. Dencandy Posted January 24, 2011 Report Share Posted January 24, 2011 There might be another reason for this, as (if I've understood the description correctly) your system is searching rather than autorunning. It could be that the disk or partition you are trying to transfer to is running out of empty disk space, so you could check that if MANEMAN's suggestion doesn't solve the problem.
