switching to a new 80 gb solid state help pls

recently just upgraded fr xp to win 7 home premium. used 2x 500 gb hd in raid 0 as my main hd. now want to use a 80 gb solid state hd as my main drive for os & some critical software. other docs incl pic will be on separate drive. i want/have to use the same license on my existing win 7 home premium. pls advise how to do it. tks in advance, jackson

As long as you are using the 80GB drive in the same rig with the same components, you can disk image the existing operating system, or clone the drive.

There is no way to tell you how to do it until you choose your "Disk Imaging/Cloning" software.

All of the software that I can think of for purpose, both freeware and retail contains full instructions.

What is the top priority here ?

The photo problem in your first post, or the problem you have in this post ?

(If you do disk image or clone to an SSD, please read up on all you can about the subject first)

hi john, tks again john. i post this new thread before your response so it kind of cross paths. i like to put up a new thread so it may get more people to chip in coz of the title of the first one is irrelevant to my new question. i have previously bought acronis but it does not work anymore on win 7 64 and i don't want to shell out $$ for the newer version. i feel that they (acronis)should have supported owner of older 32 bit version for free. have be checking the links you put up & see. this are good info. jack

end up going with EASEUS Todo Backup Home 2.0 simply becuase it is more popular and tons of users. should be good. jackson

I use Clonzilla for imaging filesystems that differ on the HD.

The Linux installs use ext3 and ext4.My windows OSs use NTFS file system.Clonzilla was the only software I could find that recognizes the ext4 FS format so that is basically why I chose it.Otherwise there are many imaging programs to choose from.Even the newest Acronis doesn't recognize ext4 format.

If you only have Windows installed on your rig,you should have no problems imaging.;)

did not clone my hd to new ssd bec too big & too many software to take out. i did a clean install (quicker)and have to call microsoft by phone to activate windows again. i have to disable existing windows os on old dh before microsoft allow me to have a new one. makes sense. in the process i have to use same code(from my family pack windows 7) again to activeat but customer service told me that it will not use one of my remaining 2 licenses. i just hope it is true. i will find out soon i guess.
