Hi

can anyone help, I have just replaced the motherboard in my Dell inspiron laptop. Everything appears to be working ok but on boot up there is a message saying something like " running on manufacturing 40 " cant remember the exact words, it then says press FN X for normal running. Is that necessary or should I ignore it?

Dell are renowned for having their own designs of many of the components of their computers - much to the annoyance and occasional despair of people trying to repair them.

Assuming the new motherboard is a like-for-like replacement, the message will be most likely only meaningful to Dell themselves.

If the machine is running satisfactorily, I would ignore the message.
