jmaster18 Posted February 5, 2011 Report Share Posted February 5, 2011 Hello guys.I know that the graphcs card is using system's RAM memory for better performance.I have nvidia 9600gt 512 MB and I also have 2GB RAM DDR2.I will upgrade in a few days to 4GB RAM.What I want to know is if I can and how to make the graphics card to use more RAM to increase performance.On the control panel I can see that total graphics memory is 1279 MB.Can I increase that number?I heard I can do it via BIOS.Is it true? jmaster18 Posted February 6, 2011 Author Report Share Posted February 6, 2011 I am not talking about overclocking.I afraid to overclock since I lost my old card.I just want to use system memory for the graphics card.For example in control panel >system and security>system>system's rating>view details I can see that in graphics I hve total graphics memory:1279MB shared memory 768MB.I believe that this has to do with RAM.How much of it the graphics card uses.A friend of mine with a less powerful card can play some games at higher settings because he has got more memory,His card is Ati 3670.His shared memory is over 1GB!How can I do the same? You can only do the same if BIOS settings on your Motherboard will allow.Search Google for your Motherboard type. Read as much as possible on the variations of settings in the BIOS.You are going to be looking for something like. - AGP aperture size, or wording to that effect. It's impossible for anyone here to advise you on the precise wording in your BIOS or how to adjust the BIOS of a Motherboard of which we have no knowledge.It's something that you are going to have to read up on yourself, - because it's only you who knows your setup.Generally if you've got a bog standard Motherboard, you are going to have bog standard settings for BIOS and a limited amount of adjustment.If RAM sharing can be altered between System and Graphics dont set it too high, - the system will suffer.Go for no more than ¼of total RAM to share with Graphics.If what you require is possible, do not be too disappointed if your rig doesn't react the same as your friends does.Overclock carefully, or wait until you can afford a better graphics card may be the better options.John.
