Gary Williams
Hi All,I've been given a few old ram sticks. They all work except for one, which reports it is write protected, plus I can't find a switch. How do I un-write protect a ram stick? (Google searching doesn't help)RegardsGary
MANEMAN
Gary. This could be some old "Sideways RAM", or possibly relaying a message that the RAM is corrupt.Either way, you are probably going to find that it is unusable, and with the low price of RAM these days is hardly worth bothering with.If the stick has some kind of manufacturers marking and you can contact them, or you can run it in some diagnostic software you will probably get closer to an answer."Sideways RAM with battery backup gives you all the advantages of both EPROM and RAM with the added bonus of write protection to prevent accidental corruption. Most users have some favourite ROMs which they just can't do without and a few that they use occasionally. With eight banks of RAM at your disposal you can just load the ones you need, whenever you want. Got a ROM that clashes with something else? No need to physically remove it, just clear the bank of RAM and simply load it again when needed."John.
