Windows 7 64-Bit Games Support

Hey Guys

This is my system info:

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850)

System Manufacturer: INTEL

System Model: DG31PR

BIOS: BIOS Date: 10/22/08 19:07:50 Ver: 08.00.10

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

Memory: 4096MB RAM

DirectX Version: DirectX 11

DX Setup Parameters: Not found

I was using Windows XP Service Pack 3 earlier[32-bit]... My problem is that I have updated all the drivers including Graphic Card but still Games are not running as smoothly as they used to run on XP.. Is it true that windows 7 32-bit is more compatible than 64-bit??

My graphic card details are:

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Display Memory: 2796 MB

Dedicated Memory: 1024 MB

Shared Memory: 1790 MB

Please help guys because the main reason I switched to Win7 was because of DirectX support..

Not neccessarily rockinlooks. There is still some 32bit software around that doesn't like to work in a 64bit environment though.

As far as smoothness is concerned, start looking to turn off/down hardware acceleration in Windows 7

And I think I read somewhere that the latest DirectX has similar adjustments.

You can start to close down Services (Careful !) If you look for Black Vipers site I'm pretty sure he built a gadget to automate services for gaming.

32 bit applications can be flagged to use more virtual memory by making them Large Address Aware.

Try turning of hardware acceleration and tell us how you get on.

Thanks for your reply...

I tried to reduce the Harware Acceleration of my system but it seems that is not possible in Windows7..***Check the attachment***...Found that on this link: [b]http://windows7themes.net/nvidia-disable-hardware-acceleration-in-windows-7.html

Btw I forgot to tell you that I had installed 1TB Hard Disk as well in this system..Is that something to do with it? But all my games are installed on my old hard disk..

Hi I'm back again.

Things get a bit busy with the family at weekends.

This is the way things should have gone:

1. Choose Start > Control Panel.

2. Double click Personalization and select Display Settings.

3. Click Advanced Settings.

4. Click Change Settings on the Troubleshooting tab.

5. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None.

6. Click Apply and then click OK to accept the new setting and close the dialog box.

7. Click OK to close the Display Properties dialog box.

8. Restart Windows.

Although these settings may be suitable for "Gaming", they may not suit other functions that you may require, so make a note of how you got to these settings so that you can reverse them if neccessary. :)

A DirectX downgrade from "11" to - 10 or even 9, if at all possible may even solve some of your problems ? -

- Once again I have had very little time today to research some of the suggestions that I am making.

Whilst I am very much in favour of the "Multi-tasking" computer, - I am hard to convince that such an individual singular computer operating system should also be used for "Gaming."

It is quite easy to set up two instances of Windows 7 on one, or more hard disks in a dual boot situation, or even -

-"XP/Windows 7" - if you do really find the experience of XP with older software more satisfying.

Each individual operating system can be tweaked and tuned to the best requirements for purpose.

For the time being try to keep some "Key" words in your head and search the internet to find as much information as you can.

Eventually you will have one or more operating systems that you have personally customized to suit your needs. That will give you a great deal of satisfaction. :)

EasyBCD

Sorry for late reply..Actually I just updated my Graphic Card again and it seems that 'lagging' issue has been automatically corrected( AS OF NOW)...

You told me about Hardware Acceleration but it seems my Graphic Card does not support it.. Do check the attachment in my previous thread.. The "Change Settings" under Troubleshoot is all gray ,i.e, I cant click on it..

All in all..problem is solved as of now.. B)

We try to make sure that the posts are not wasted by putting in a lot of information that can be read and used by others on the forum.

Although it was not the cure in your particular instance. Quite a few more people will now know about "Hardware Acceleration" in respect of Graphics :)
