Missing dll files

My girlfriend's computer seemed to have a virus, despite having clamwin anti-virus software, so I downloaded avast anti-virus and performed a boot scan. After which, Firefox and IE both don't work and I get this error:

Error loading C:\WINDOWS\igopepacu.dll

I tried looking for this dll on the free dll sites but it doesn't seem to exist anywhere. Help!

I would guess that igopepacu.dll is a malicious file which Avast has removed, but the PC is still trying to load it up even though it isn't there any more.

Download, install and update the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here :-

Then do a full scan and let it kill off whatever traces it finds.

Reboot.

Then report back on your progress.

Thanks, but I can't access the internet on the computer in question to download those files. And the computer I'm on now says internet explorer can't open the page, so I can't transfer them to the other machine. Hit another brick wall. Help!

Try again; the site works fine for me.

If you cannot download it from the original site, try a 3rd-party download site like Majorgeeks, CNET, or Filehippo.

Assuming Malewarebytes fails to fix Firefox/IE this is what I'd do:

Go grab a copy of Opera with the pc that can access the internet. Transfer it onto the offline pc. Now you should be able to use it for the moment to access the web.

Now use Opera to download a copy of Firefox, and uninstall your old Firefox. Then install the new Firefox.

In most cases, Firefox should work after that.

Fix IE in the same way. Uninstall guide from Microsoft. Then download IE8/9(whichever you use) and reinstall it.

Everything should work again.
