Nyxm
Hello everyone. I recently received an old Dell Latitude that had XP Prof on it. It previously belonged to a manufacturing company, so I used a XP SP2 re-installation CD to start from scratch. The only problem is that my other laptop was already working fine with WPA encryption with my router and the only kind I can get XP to use is WEP. I have done all the updates that I can find and now have SP3 for XP. I tried to just use WEP, but with 7, it asked me for a user name and password and I don't know what to put in that field. If someone could help me get either WEP working on 7 or WPA working on XP, I would really appreciate it. I have WIndows XP Professional Version 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647 : Service Pack 3) on my Dell and Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1 (Build 7601 : Service Pack 1) on a Compaq. I just updated both before I posted this. Thanks for the time that anyone who reads this is spending.

Boris
If you are using its built-in wireless capability, have you installed the latest wireless driver for it from :-/>http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P4N_C640&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Perhaps my router isn't set up to handle TKIP (whatever that is). I'll check and post back.
Nyxm
The router seems to be set to the same kind of encryption that I now have my Dell set for, but I still cannot get it to connect to an encrypted network. Of course, I have no trouble with unsecured networks, but I don't want to leave my network without any password safety.

Boris
Change the setting to "g only" to see if that makes a difference ?Don't bother - it won't :( see below
Boris
According to this :-/>http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/products/latit/c640_spec.pdfyour model only supports "b"- which I think means it only understands WEP
Boris
I think that the Latitude is a bit short of USB ports ???So, probably, the simplest and cheapest solution would be to get one of these for it :-(wireless networking PC card for laptop to use the 802.11g standard)/>http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys-WPC54G-Wireless-G-Notebook-Adapter/dp/B00007KDVK- which would then give it "g" capability.
