Multiple Windows Installs

Recommended Posts

Hey people,

I've got Windows 7 installed on two separate HDs. I did this because my SSD failed a few months ago, and I RMA'd it. I kept an install of Windows on my mechanical drive in case it failed again. ANYWAY!

Everytime my comp starts up it asks me which Windows 7 I want to load. I always want it to choose the one of my SSD; the other install is just a backup. It will wait for 20 to 30 seconds before choosing my default install though because it has the option.

Is these anyway to force it to always choose the same windows install to load, skipping the selection process unless I specifically ask to load the other one? It'd cut my startup time in half.

Thanks for any advice my brethren.

It may be advisable to remove the drive with the secondary copy of the O/S and store it in a safe place in case the worst happens again.

Better would be to replace your secondary install with an image or backup of your system that doesn't attempt to install on bootup - something like Acronis will do this for you. Whichever approach you take, remember to keep the secondary version updated regularly otherwise it won't be of much use.
