aabbbyee Posted June 27, 2011 Report Share Posted June 27, 2011 Why doesn’t my desktop computer (running on Windows 7 program) automatically go into SLEEP MODE after I program it into the power plan? While I can manually put it into sleep mode, it will not do so after remaining idle for a period of time. (For example, I will go to bed with the computer on and wake up with the computer on.) I have tried everything. I have updated all drivers. I have manipulated all the advanced power settings (e.g. USB settings, wake times, multimedia settings, hybrid sleep, etc.) I have restored the system (even though this Dell computer is only one month old.) Why on earth would you want to leave the computer on all night with the cost of fuel at its present levels? Assuming an average of about say 350 watts power supply, and say about 80 watts for the monitor, in total about 430 watts. If my maths is correct this amounts to about 538 KW per annum. Check this with your KW hour fuel price and you will see what you are wasting per annum, plus the wear and tear on the hard drives which do not have a finite life.:) If you computer is more powerful than this it will of course increase the costs. Check this with your KW hour fuel price and you will see what you are wasting per annum, plus the wear and tear on the hard drives which do not have a finite life.:)Power supplies don't work like that.Just because a power supply is rated at (say) 500W doesn't mean it's 'pulling' 500W all the time, it only 'pulls' 500W if there is a need for that amount of power.I have a 640W power supply but my power output only gets close to that whilst gaming as I have quite a power hungry graphics card in my PC.If the OP was to use hibernation mode then in my opinion there would be only a small amount of power used.p.s. I personally have not used hibernation mode before and so I don't know if the hard drive(s) are powered except when taking it out of hibernation mode !?
