I was doing a system restore because Windows 7 was going so slow and my email was not working. Had an electric cut in the middle of it. When I restarted my pc and went to see if my email was working properly (could not receive) I got an error message saying something about winmail application . Also get it when I try to open word and other applications. Cannot go back to restore as it no longer functions and get the same error message. Not very computer minded so any help please.

It is a desktop Packard Bell Viseo 190W. I tried to restore from safe mode but that did not work. I do not know how to boot from last known configuration. If I just switch off from the power button a black screen comes asking me if I want to start up in safe mode / with network or without. It is in Spanish but it does not say start up in last known good configuration.

There is always the problem that if the power fails whilst the computer is actively working (in this case the HDD very busy) there can be physical damage done to the computer itself. That is apart from any software problems caused.

Do you have the operating system disk? If so, you could try a Repair install. If that fails, then a new install of the system. If that fails, it seems that you have damaged hardware.

Do you have a backup of your system before this disaster occurred?

Be VERY careful about downloading from sites that state Windows Errors Fixed and such words - these can be scams designed to extract money from you and give nothing in return.

If you download WOT http://www.mywot.com/ it will give you an idea about which sites are safe to use.

Thanks for your help but in the end took it to retailer where I bought it as it was still very much under warranty and he did a factory reset after saving all my folders etc. He did try everything else but said it was Windows itself that was corrupted probably by the electricity failure. Now back to normal.
