peter e
Hi all.A friend has a Compaq laptop which has a DVD/CD-RW drive. She tells me she has copied audio files from the hard disk to a CD through Windows Media Player, and copied files from a CD to the hard disk without problems. But each time she tries to copy ordinary files from the hard disk to a blank CDRW disc or a blank CDR disk an error message appears: "D:/ is not accessible. Incorrect function."The drive is able to read from CDs and DVDs without problems. She has been using Maxell blank CDRW/Rs.Any ideas?Pete(incidentally, and not related to the problem above, before I wrote this post I copied some pdf files from the hard disk to a blank CDR on my own Evesham computer, and now the rewriter drive refuses to open. I've tried pressing the button several times and "right click - eject" in windows explorer, all to no avail :( ).
Guest lb
It may be worth checking if CD recording is enabled within system properties.goto my computer, right click the D: drive (the cdrw) and select properties.select the recording tab and ensure that the correct options are checked.see below.... peter e
Thanks for responding, lb. I had a look at the machine earlier this afternoon and your analysis is spot on, if a little late (but much appreciated). When she told me about the problem, I overlooked what the obvious cause might be. But when I saw the machine I checked out the drive properties and saw it wasn't enabled for recording. Thanks again, lb. ;) Pete
monkeyhanger
peter eHi Re your problem of the cdrw drive not opening. When you start to reboot does the c\drw drawer open when pressed? If so. Then check on start \ run \ msconfig \startup and see if any of the incd or create cd tabs are unticked. If they are retick them, reboot and then try.If the drive will still not open on a reboot, it can be machanically opened by inserting a large pin into the small hole on the front of the drive. This releases the catch mechanism.
peter e
Oh, I'd forgotten about my drive not opening. But eventually, it did open. I seem to remember it happened to me once before. But thanks for the advice, Monkey. I'll bear it in mind if it happens again. I had a look and saw there's a small hole just under the dvd and cd drive doors, but I had no idea they where there or that you could stick a pin in them to open the drive. Thanks again.Pete

Sureshot
Out of interest are you using InCD, Peter e? I have the same problem when I have been copying or formatting a disk and find that the drive will just not eject. It even refuses when I go into My Computer and right click on the Drive and select eject. I eventually discovered that the only way it ejects is to click on the InCD symbol next to my clock and selects the eject option there. InCD seems to get a bit possessive of my blank disks :)just wondered
peter e
Hi, Sureshot. No, not using InCD. I have a Philips CD Rewriter. It works fine most of the time but I seem to remember that on a couple of occasions in the past the CD has refused to eject after I've written to it.Pete
