awdtsi42o
I appreciate all of the help everyone...Current situation is the following:I have the bootable XP image on CD perfectly. When I restart the system, I get the " Press any key to boot from CD... " prompt. When I press any key it cycles with a " HP Invent " screen then back to " Press any key to boot from CD... " over and over. No matter how many times I press any key (I have tried them all) it never starts the XP install. When I try to start the XP install via the command prompt, I get the message "Program too big too fit in memory". What memory is this referring too? The RAM or the hard drive? Like the previous poster mentioned, if it is referring to the hard drive then could it be because the hard drive is formatted in a different file system (for Windows ME) and since there is only one partition, there is no room for the XP install files? Maybe if I format the entire drive using the boot disk in the previous post, there will be enough room to install XP? That is if the memory that isn't enough is hard disk space and not RAM.If someone could clarify if the prompt "Program is too big too fit in memory" refers to RAM or hard disk space that would be a big help. Like I mentioned before the system has 128MB of RAM, which is double the system requirements for XP...Anyone who has encountered the "Program too big too fit in memory" while installing XP please share your experience. If you can share how you got around it, that would be a big help as well...Thanks very much to everyone who has contributed to this thread, at the very least I have learned a ton. Thanks again,Erick
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Try instead installing from 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'; this will ensure nothing else is running.
bludgard
One could also zero out the drive with a utility such as this. The package includes the .ISO and burner. Boot from the disk and erase the drive. Try installing again.By the way; how old is this hard drive we are referencing? Has the RAM and HDD been tested?
