I bought a cheap monitor so I could have a dual monitor set on my desktop. But I can't get it to work. I haveWindows 7 Home Premium 64-bitATi Radeon DX10 Series Graphics card with a VGA and DVI-D sockets. I have bought a DVD-D to VGA cable and when that didn't work I bought a HDMI to VGA cable and nothing works. It doesn't detect it. I can get the VGa>VGA to work fine. It's the DVI-D to CGA I'm having a problem with. I also tried a HDMI to VGA cable and that doesn't work either. I only have one VGA socket. That works fine. -pops- Posted March 5, 2012 Report Share Posted March 5, 2012 Is there no DVI socket on the monitor? I think the problem you're having is due to VGA being an analogue signal and DVI/HDMI is digital.. Lots of websites don't seem to think this is a problem and a simple DVI to VGA converter lead will do the trick and then it will simply be recognised in windows 7. However there seem to be lots of people like myself who can't get the PC to recognise the second monitor and no one's come up with any solution that I can see. -pops- Posted March 5, 2012 Report Share Posted March 5, 2012 For any chance of this working, check that the DVI socket on your computer and the plug on the cable have 29 pins. Many DVI connectors are digital only and do not carry an analogue signal - for this you need the full 29 pins and for it to be fully wired. Mike Belgrave Posted March 6, 2012 Author Report Share Posted March 6, 2012 I think we're starting to get to the bottom of things. My graphics card only supports DVI-D which is 25 pin. What you are referring to is DVI-I, which is 29 pin. That won't fit in the slot I have. And I've properly checked, neither LCD monitor has a DVI slot. Just VGA. I only paid £9 for the extra monitor on eBay, so I think I'll just have to cut my loses and buy a DVI-D monitor or a supporting graphics card.
