Not enough space. Hard drive is formatted & empty!

Recommended Posts

I tried to install Windows 8 but my sound drivers didn't work. So I tried to re-install Windows 8. When it came to the drive option I chose to format and install. It said there was not enough space on the disc. So I tried a Windows 7 disc and the same thing happened. I tried to delete the disc, format the disc and the same message comes up. So I tried another hard drive in the PC and I got the same message. Any ideas why this is happening?

Missed your post............ Sorry !

Welcome. :)

Have a look at the disk/s with GParted. Sounding to me like large partitions have been created, and are for some reason now left "Unallocated"

Use Parted Magic so that you can easily take some screen shots of the situation with both disks whilst in the GParted environment, and post them up here on the board. ( GParted standalone also has screen capture facility)

Do remember that if you save the screenshots to root, you will lose them when you close the computer, so save them to an external source.

Wont offer up any more suggestions until we see the screenshots because until then it's all a matter of conjecture.

Starts to run into long rambling threads unneccessarily when, - "A Picture Paints a Thousand Words."

Apologies again. :flowers:

John.

As I personally have decided to stay with Windows 7 for a while, it appears that the drive may ( :unknw:) be full with Windows old folder(s)/file(s); gives one a chance to revert back to Windows 7 after dickin' around with WDP or what comes next. Zero out the drive and start afresh. As for the sound driver not working with WDP, I got XP drivers to work by installing in compatibility mode.

Yeah? Well Bill may or may not be pleased  especially what with all this push to GParted recently (it is a wonderful tool). I see that you have put all your "smarts" out there for the world to see. Glad to witness it.

Got my scooter assembled, running and broke in. Gotta do some valve adjustments and whatnot....

MANEMANS postings have been consistent and forthwith. I recommend dubbing; for dubbing is a must!

Yeah ! Well I was in training for the world BSOD championships, but I decided to pull out and leave it to Scarecrow Man and a few other of those Smart A$$es out in Canada.

Age is against me it seems. :) :) :)

" Gotta do some valve adjustments."

I recommend GParted, and a big bag of those economy tappets before you start.

See Ya later down the road Cap'n. :P
