Trust in Japan's nuclear energy industry has been shattered, and people are still nervous when the slightest earthquake starts. (There are about two that are strongly felt every week.) Many people believe that "the big one" is yet to come. Before 3/11 last year, I didn't know anyone who followed government recommendations on keeping emergency rations and equipment at home. Now almost everybody does. Many foreigners have left Japan after 3/11. I thought that after some time they will come back, but it appears that not many have. (We can feel that strongly at the bookstore where I still regularly help out. They have moved to a smaller location last month.) But spring is coming, and the cherry blossoms will cheer us up soon.
