RAID 5 package of 3 x 2T HDDs - advice please

Folks, I am looking a ways to increase my hard drive space.

Friends have suggested a RAID 5 package of 3 x 2T HDDs.

They say this will provide me with 4T of disk space.

They also say that this is an auto backup system.

I am having trouble finding such a bundle of drives and case.

Any thoughts about the suggestion or ideas where to buy such things please.

I set up a large drive system for someone a couple of years ago (not quite like your one, though).

The components were from SCAN. Have a look at http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/hard-drives-ext/network-attached-storage-5plus-bay-%28without-hdd%29 for some ideas.

That's the sort of thing that I found - names that were largely unknown to me.

Do manufacturers such as WD and Seagate do a RAID type setup?

And pops you usually have some worthwhile experience in most PC matters what's your experience/knowledge of a RAID.

My experience of RAID?

Not at all good! Never really understood what I was doing with it. OK, I got it to work sometimes but more by luck than judgement.

This was in the early days of XP and SATA - when things were much more complex in setting up than they are now.

Regarding the SCAN boxes - that's more or less all they are - boxes with the appropriate equipment to couple your own HDDs - which you buy separately. A good point, though, is that these boxes do all (or most of) the RAID setting up.
