Boris
Why are you doing this downgrade ?
Penge58
Why are you doing this downgrade ?The reason why I am doing the downgrade is that I am setting up a HTPC and I uses a WIN 7 PRO licence I have which I already have running on another PC. I was quite aware of that I would need to purchase another licence after a couple of days when the registration period was out. So I did but on thet PC I do not need the Proffesional version so I bought a WIN 7 Home edition which is cheaper. The licence key I got from microsoft by mail but the CD will arrive in a few days. I will then install the Home edition version instead of the Proffesional and use the leagel licence I have bought. The question is atually what is the best way to do this ? Do I need to reformat and install the Home Edition from scratch and then again install the other software again or is there a shortcut here ? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
So you did not activate the Win 7 Pro system on the current computer? Because if you did, then you could not activate it again on another computer.P.S. I don't think there is a way to "downgrade" Windows, but maybe you can just try it? Penge58
Yes I dd activate it on my first computer....were it has been running for more than a year. When I installed it on my second computer I typed in the same lisence number but of course it just ran for a couple of days before it starts to ask me to register it online. When I did it told me that I have to buy a new licence, which I did, but now for the Windows Home editiion. So thats were I stand. I have windows proffesional with all my software installed and want to downgrade to a windows home when I get the CD from microsoft in a few days. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
You may need to talk with Microsoft about that. I don't know if you can deactivate your Windows Pro installation, so that you can use it on another computer. Maybe they can revoke that initial activation, so that you can install your Win Pro legally on another computer?

My question is if its possible to keep settings and other software installtions when I install the windows home or will I loose everything and need to do a clean installation ? I have heard something about taking a backup to preserve settings and so but I dont know.....
