Chris Posted September 27, 2003 Report Share Posted September 27, 2003 Using the Windows XP support tools To give you an idea of what's on offer, here's a selection of the available toolsTool: Encrypting File System InformationFile Name: Efsinfo.exeDescription: This tool will need to be run from the command line and displays information about files on your NTFS hard drive that have been encrypted using the Encrypting File System. EFS is only available with Windows XP Professional Edition. Tool: Directory Disk UsageFile Name: Diruse.exeDescription: Another command line tool, this displays details of the size of a particular directory. If your partition is NTFS then this tool will also detail compression information. Tool: Windows Installer Cleanup UtilityFile Name: msicuu.exeDescription: This useful program removes any configuration data that Windows Installer records and saves for a particular installed product. This includes directories, files and registry entries. This tool comes in handy when a previous corrupt installation is stopping you from successfully installing a product. Tool: Network Connectivity TesterFile Name: Netdiag.exeDescription: Run this tool from the command line to help diagnose connectivity problems. There's no syntax parameters required as the program performs a number of fixed tests. You will then be informed of the result on each one. Tool: Disk Manager DiagnosticsFile Name: Dmdiag.exeDescription: Run this tool from the command prompt to see detailed information pertaining to disk storage. Details include Computer Name and operating system version along with driver letter usage and Disk partition info. Tool: Memory Profiling ToolFile Name: Memsnap.exeDescription: This command line tool takes a snapshot of your system and records details of what memory resources are being used by your system in a log file.
