..restore it and still nothing!!

So a while back, a friend of mine used my laptop and had the smart idea of compressing all my files to save space on the hard drive and I started it up and the bootmanager went up in smoke..

Since then I've tried countless things to remedy it using a windows 7 installation disc...

- Unchecked compress hard drive box in c:drive properties

- Typed numerous commands into command prompt like:

bootrec /FixMbr

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /rebuildbcd

- theres no system restore points

- startup repair cannot repair automatically

None of these options have been able to take the frigging "boot manager is missing" message off when I restart.

Has anyone got a flawless way of restoring the bootmanager no matter how it has been removed?
