Im an average user - but still on XP home and think that you need to go to Tools>options >Tabs and read the options how your tabs work and click or unclick to suit - I use Firefox.

You can set it to open on same tab and go back or new tab and/or switch to the new tab etc.I dont use that one just let it open, carry on and go look after etc.

Most other browsers from memory have these same type of options.
