Hi,

So I installed windows 8 three days ago. Now I had a power failure last night. Now Windows only boots to the automatic repair screen. Where it says Automatic recovery has failed.I have tried all the options in the troubleshooting section of that window. I was allowed to access the command prompt and I noticed that the windows now has a new partition X, as well as C. and all the files are split between them.. I did not make an iso backup yet.....this was also an upgrade from a windows xp installation.....So I guess has anyone had experience with this? Is their anyway to download the windows iso?

I've seen so many computers die after a power failure, never to recover.

What I think at least part of the problem is if the computer is set to re-start after power failure. Very often the surges encountered when power is restored is sufficient to destroy parts of the motherboard thus, a dead machine.

I always set computer power to require a manual restart after power failure. Even that is not foolproof as power failures are seldom "clean" breaks in supply.

I have been using Arch Linux for three years, my wife wanted to use some programs that only windows had......I had no problems with linuix....and as soon as I installed windows the computer has a melt down. As for the ISO. I read that when you download it it "forms" to the computer you have. Now I have a 64 bit laptop and the broken computer is 64-bit, is their anything else I need to worry about as far as that is concerned? I guess I could just download windows 8 drivers and plop them on a usb drive.

If you do not have your Windows 8 product key at hand either use a program like Nirsoft’s ProduKey to display it on your Windows 8 installation, or use the generic key XKY4K-2NRWR-8F6P2-448RF-CRYQH instead.

Note that the generic key will only work here, but that it won’t activate the operating system. You need your own product key for that.

The program verifies the product key on the fly, and you get to a page where you have the choice to install Windows 8 right away, or create a installation disc.
