Hello all my laptop has started to run very slow for a while now and sometimes takes up to 10 minutes to start up it is an Acer 9412 and runs on Windows XP. I just thought since i was wiping it clean and saving all of my videos and pictures i will upgrade the software.

I have Windows 7 now and would like to fully wipe the laptop and install this, my problem is i can not find how to do this . I can only find the system restore option from a previous date.

Could any one help please?

Thanks

Hi there. Welcome.

Before you wipe it clean (i.e - Format the drive) make a backup of all your current drivers. ( http://www.boozet.org/dd.htm ) Freeware.

Download Windows 7 drivers from Acer for the 9400 series.

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor : http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=20

Do remember that if you have a XP recovery partition on your computer it will also wipe this out too !

Therefore you may not have a way of getting your original XP back onto the computer unless you make a system image first.

The following YouTube video will guide you through the format and installation process for Windows 7.

Once installed, update the drivers, and download "Windows Updates", make a system repair disc, and then defrag the system.

At this stage it is a good idea to make System Image "Number 1" :)

The second video will show you how to do a system backup, and make a repair disc.

For any future problems with your Windows 7 installation, please note that we have some excellent video tutorials here on the forum. Here are the links
