Can't open any files with WMP12?

This problem happened out of thin air. One moment, I'm playing music. Then suddenly, wmp12 can't open anything. With mp3/avi files, it says it's unsupported. I tried opening stuff with VLC media player. The video plays, but the sound doesn't work, then it says that the sound file is not supported, even though I'm playing videos that have been known to work in the past. Any help?

Viewing your computer "Reliability History" should give information as to exactly what has happened "Out of Thin Air" and also the timeline may show content of any errors previously that may have led to such an event. Reliabilty History has the added bonus ability to not only be able to pinpoint faults extremely accurately but also you can produce an xml document to the desktop which you can send to someone else should help with analysis be required.

Similarly you can produce a System Health Report / System Diagnosis by opening the command prompt window as administrator and typing: Perfmon /Report

After a few minutes you will be in possession of a diagnostic report that may be useful in helping you track down your fault. You then have the choice to save this report as an HTML if you wish someone else to peruse it.

I use both of these inbuilt tools in the very first instance when repairing W7 based computers by remote. Most times it gets me to the root of many problems very fast, and proves, often with little doubt, any user error or abuse.

At the moment I am seeing your best friend :) - as being "Reliability History" because you seem just as interested in finding out what caused it , as you are in actually fixing it.

I will take it for granted that you have already tried System Restore, and have not had the foresight to make a System Image.
