-pops-
That is the default condition for lid closing. On all W7 computers I've seen there is a choice of what the computer does on closing the lid under Power Options in Control Panel (left of screen: Choose what closing the lid does)
mich04
under all power plans for I have do nothing selected under the lid's power options I stated that I already have that option changed to do nothing when the lid closes. Before it was selected to shut the monitor off when I first got the computer.
-pops-
As a laptop would be next to useless with the lid closed, some models only allow this function when another monitor/keyboard are attached. Also, remember to "save" any changes when adjusting the power options.
bludgard
As a laptop would be next to useless with the lid closed,... I do this (close the lid) when listening to music on battery (kills the screen and saves battery = hours of playtime even on a janky battery ). Maybe OP should double check Change advanced power settings > Change settings that are currently unavailabe (if applicable) > Power buttons and lid > Lid closed action; and as stated: Save changes before exit. Also note that if power plan is changed the changes will have no effect on other plans unless configured to do so. There is also the possibility of OEM software running in the background that overrides Windows. If so; go into BIOS and disable it.
