hundy Posted August 6, 2013 Report Share Posted August 6, 2013 I know this is a widows forum, but I am looking for help to open adobe files on my computer. I have windows 7 and use internet explorer 9. I have serveral Adobe PDF files from work. Everytime I go to open one, the files opens, then I can see the first page, and it locks up. I cannot click on anything and it says "not responding" at the top. I have removed the adobe reader and reinstalled two times. I am unable to click anything in the adobe tool bar, as it locks up. -pops- Posted August 6, 2013 Report Share Posted August 6, 2013 I gave up with Adobe Reader long ago - it's a big resource hog. I now use Foxit Reader which I find as good and only a small load on your computer. Foxit Reader is not something I would recommend to anyone, as it is well known to install spyware on users' systems. I have tested that software since version 1, and there is no way around the spyware! There are a number of good alternate PDF viewers out there, Sumatra PDF, Nitro PDF, ..., but Foxit is definitely not one of them! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted August 8, 2013 Report Share Posted August 8, 2013 I have no spyware problems with Foxit. You are a sophisticated computer user; you may have found a way around it. I have tested every version from 1 to 5 (not 6; I don't think they have mended their deceptive ways), and each time - whatever I checked or unchecked - I ended up with the Ask toolbar and search engine redirector. Uninstalling Foxit always left me with an uninstallable Ask infection. The only way to get rid of it is either to remove it manually, or a total restore from backup. This is seriously the worst software I have encountered in my 40+ years as a computer user. I am very much more happy with the original Adobe Reader, whatever its flaws may be.
