greatchap
Hi Guys,I have a sony vaio laptop with the following config:OS: Win 7 ProRam: 6 GBHDD: 650 GBProcessor: i7-2640M @ 2.8 GHZHDD RPM: 5400I have installed Windows XP using Microsoft Virtual PC. I run three programs in XP Mode and a couple of programs in Windows 7. I have allotted 1.5 GB Ram to XP mode.In the xp mode the performance is very slow. At times even opening my computer and navigating to a folder takes a while. Is there anything I can do to speed things up? Can I overclock my laptop also? Please advice.Thank you,Cheers,Sam
bludgard
Do not OC the laptop; unless you want to potentially litterally fry the motherboard.I think one is saying that the host machine (Win7) is slow? The VM (WinXP) should be blazing along....What exact make/model is this VAIO?Check that VT-X (virtual technology) is not disabled in BIOS. Most laptops come with this feature disabled by default. Enable this and/or anything hyper-threading related. Why has 1.5GB RAM been allocated to the VM? XP runs quite well with 500 to 700MB.Personall I use VirtualBox as it is easier to configure and supports more than Microsoft products. greatchap
Thanks a lot for your help. Infact your tip to check if VT-X is disabled in bios came handy as it was disabled. I installed VirtualBox and its working fine and faster so far. I my guest os (Win XP) is able to access my host os (Win 7)'s files/folders. Is vice versa possible ? bludgard
... my guest os (Win XP) is able to access my host os (Win 7)'s files/folders. Is vice versa possible ? Yes; it is. With the VM booted, install Guest Additions. Reboot the VM. Then navigate to a folder or such. Choose whether to make permanent, full access etc. If read/write is preferred, untick read-only box before saving parameters. Reboot the VM. Then navigate to Explorer following the example below. Under Entire network, find the shared folder > rigt-click the appropriate folder and choose to send to desktp... create shortcut (for easy access).
