Steve711
Hello, I'm visiting my parents who have a 3 year old Compaq Presario CQ5700F Win 7/64. The machine is indicating an imminent drive failure when booting. While I'm here (the remainder of today and tomorrow) I'd like to replace the O/S HDD for them. This machine did not come with a physical recovery disc, but a partition containing the data which must be burned to (3) DVDs. I have attempted to burn the recovery discs using the HP utility unsuccessfully (several times) and keep receiving errors. Would anyone know a work-around to this issue so I may install a new O/S HDD and re-install the O/S to the new HDD?? Thanks in advance!! ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Can you make a backup of the actual Windows partition?
Steve711
Wasn't that what I was attempting to do?
Alan2273
Use a program like Acronis to make a clone of the hard drive, then transfer it to your new one. http://www.acronis.co.uk/homecomputing/trueimage/index.html?adpos=1t1&device=c&network=g&matchtype=e&gclid=CLia-M_kmroCFU_MtAodWU4Aug
