failing to change startup sound win 8

hello!

i wanted to change the deafult startup sound for win8. i followed that guide and changed the setting

after i changed some setting thats what i saw:

the problem is that nothing actually changed. although the settings have changed, the sound didn't.

does anyboby know why?

Did you make a back up of the registry before you altered the keys, is so just restore the original.

If you did not make a back up do a system restore.

If you cannot do that I will see what the original values were and post them later, so you can change them back.

The Reg_Dword for system logon, logoff and exit is 0x00000001 (1)

i did not back up the registry before, why should i?

i just changed the value from 1 to 0 so that the option to change the log on sound will appear in the setting...

as i wrote, i succeeded to make it appear and changed the sound to something else but nothing really changed.

why?

It is very unwise to tinker about with the inner workings of a computer without backing up in case you do something wrong (which may be something seemingly as trivial as a slip of the finger on the keyboard). This can easily result in your computer turning into a box of fairly useless junk.
