dahermit
I am going to clone my Windows 7 computer. Question: Is it necessary to format the new hard drive with a system (make it bootable), or does the cloning software do that automatically? Boris
Cloning software makes an exact copy of the existing drive.
andsome
I take it you are going to use a plug in hard drive. If so format it first to NTFS, then save your clone to it. Together with several others on here, I use ACRONIS. After installing it follow the instructions to make a boot disc, then use that to boot up with your external hard drive plugged in and switched on. Follow the instructions and select which back up you want to install. I's a pretty fast operation, depending on the size of your back up.
