I have created a mirror image onto a USB hard drive and a System Recovery disk. I am going to buy a computer with a 1 TB hard drive that has Windows 8 pre-installed. I wish to use my Windows 7 mirror image to load all my programs, etc. to the new compter's hard drive. I wish to replace the dreded Windows 8 operating system with my old Windows 7 operating system. My old computer came with Windows 7 installed, so I do not have Windows 7 CD's with which to install it onto the new computer. All I have to work with, is the System Image Mirror I have made and a recovery/boot disk. Can some one please give me a step-by-step on how to accomplish what I want (Windows 8 replaced by Windows 7, mirror loaded on the new hard drive)? Firstly because all the drivers in it will be for the devices on the Windows 7 motherboard, which are unlikely to be the same as those on the Windows 8 motherboard. Secondly, as the original install was OEM, you will need to buy a new Windows 7 licence to install it on the Windows 8 machine. Your best bet would be to buy a new OEM copy of Windows 7 and install it on the Windows 8 machine, assuming you can first find the correct Windows 7 drivers for it. Good luck ! In other words, if I buy a computer that comes with Windows 8 already installed, I am likely stuck with it? And, there is no way to transfer my programs to the new computer? Personally, I have NEVER bought a commercially produced computer. There is too much crap loaded onto them. Better to visit a reliable store and discuss your requirements with them, and have one built to a specification agreed with you. That is all I see on the shelves in Walmart...I just assumed that as soon as 8 came out, the only preloaded Windows would be 8 and 7 would not be available. In the two Walmarts near my home, that is the case; there are only Windows 8 computers on the shelves. After reading the above however, I went online and scoped out the availability of Windows 7 systems, it is as you say...they are still available (unless you shop Walmart). as for: do you think enterprises will want Windows 8 to replace their XP systems? I do not game or do anything that requires the hottest, and very latest high-performance computer. I just internet and low-level VB 2010 programing. I assembled my own computers years ago...when I knew what I was doing and really do not think I could save any money doing it now. Nowadays an off-the-shelf unit is all I need. A $498 8GB, 1TB drive and is about all I could ever put to use. And, I now know that they are still available online so, my problem is solved.
