Display problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a HP Compaq latop running Windows Vista. About 2 inches from the left edge of my display, there is a black vertical line running down the display from the top to bottom. When I change screens, the line does not go away. To remove this line would I have to replace the display?

Thanks,

Right Click your desktop

Under Resolution, see if you can move the slider between High/Low.

The slider may or may not be possible to adjust, depending on your laptop.

For your information - the inverter has a backlight attached to it which illuminates the screen.

The most common failures of this type are a faulty, bad or loose cable that runs from the video card (motherboard chip in your case) up to the display on laptops.

The cable may have either failed (kinked, creased, or broken), or partially come loose from either the videocard or the display panel.

it is also possible that the screen itself is damaged, depending on the width of this line.

What you could is plug a separate monitor into your laptop and if using that the fault is still there, then it is not the screen, but the video card/chip itself.
