moon
A strange Thing happened today. Actually, strange Things tend to happen most days but this one highlighted a huge gap in my head. I switched on a machine and read 'Invalid System Disk' so I reached over to take out whatever was in there and....there wasn't anything. I tried rebooting several times, as this particular machine (98SE) has a stable history and no major changes recently. No luck, ' Invalid System Disk', so I popped in its Startup floppy, came to the A: prompt and then realised that I didn't have a clue as to what to do from there. Now I know that there's nothing seriously wrong with the machine, I just wanted to boot into Windows. How do you do that from the A: prompt ? Anyway, I tried inventing a few commands, A: Start A: Begin A:Windows? but just received the 'Bad Command name' message so I gave it a really bad command and stabbed the 'off' button. ( I don't know how to exit from DOS either) After a coffee, during which I gleaned a few clues from an old Manuel ( the ex pat Spaniard next door) I powered it up again and , lo, it booted to Windows. However, this is not just a ramble while I'm waiting for me tea. I really want to know what to do from the A: prompt using a floppy startup disk on a 98SE machine. Disgruntled.Tooting. Chris
I think you type:winor C:then, winThat it is."Invalid System Disk" - Could be a hard drive on its way out sign, the cable on its way out sign or just "one of those things"... Just simple and useful ones, I don't want to end up reading Mavis Beacon. :D
