Graham Posted October 18, 2003 Report Share Posted October 18, 2003 First of all, hello and thanks to Nellie2 for inviting me over.This may seem a bit of a cheek, because it is a problem posted on another forum, but I found it so interesting I wanted to share it with you.Office 95, in the form of floppy discs, has been loaded onto a computer a long time ago. Now the owner is trying to load onto another old PC to use as back-up. But the message 'This has been used before, are you the legal owner?' is coming up all the time during installation.I assume a 'been used' file has been added to the discs. I've suggested making a copy, and deleting any files with a different date on the copy and trying that. Anyone come across this before? monkeyhanger Posted October 18, 2003 Report Share Posted October 18, 2003 Welcome to the forum Graham.I have never come across this sort of situation, from a floppy eh. :unsure: At a guess I would think that it would have a trigger file that has been activated when it was first installed. This would be clever as the floppy drive is read and WRITE. There must be a file or activation code, otherwise the disks are useless after the first install. What are you supposed to do if you had to format that computerIt's a good job they were never able to incorporate this to 95,98 and me cdr disks. I think that it's unlikely that they would bother with such precautions back then, even if they had the means to do so.I suspect some other factor is responsible.
