Slash vs. back slash

Someone please explain the differences and effects produced by the forward and backslashes. I'm still trying to sort out my index page. ;)

I think you will find...... and please someone correct me if I am wrong.....

The slash / defines the path on the WWW

but if you look at any local address on your pc you will see the path defined with the backslash \

I detest the use of the term forward slash my self. I only used it out of deference to anybody who would help me. :rolleyes:

Stick a back slash in the aress bar:

Right Folks, now the crux of my problem - I'm still trying to sort out thet index page - is that I'm trying to do a dummy layout on my PC before uploading it. As a first step I just want that jogging jiffer and the hit counter to work. I've been tearing my diminishing hair out and really screwed the web page yesterday. I think it may be due to having to chage the switches (/ vs \) for the upload? <_>

They aren't switches Doug and you shouldn't have to change them.

Say you have a page that you have called index.htm in a folder called Dougsweb on your c drive.

then the path to that page on your local pc would be

C:\Dougsweb\index.htm

if you uploaded that folder to your space

then the path or address to that page would be

http://www.johnchapman.plus.com/Dougsweb/index.htm

ps... this is a pretend address so don't go clicking on it because it won't take you anywhere.
