i think i just dont get the idea of how boot works, though i have years of experience with computers.

I have an SSD drive (connected via NVMe) work fine up until:
- i connected another SSD drive (via SATA), then it booted into other windows OP on the sata drive.
- i disconnected the sata drive, expected to go back to the windows installed on the NVMe drive, and got the attached message

btw, recovery tools doesn't fix it.

I just don't have control over the ability to choose which drive it will boot from.
More over, now i can't even recover my main (NVMe) drive.

Hello danezeq,

The error code 0xc00000f 'Required Device isn't Connected or can't be Accessed.' is shown on the machine every time we try to start your PC. You cannot boot your machine to your desktop if your machine is in this state. So, you will have to use recovery tools to resolve the issue.

To resolve the 0xc000000f Boot error, you need to start your computer from a Windows installation/recovery media. If you don't own a Windows Installation Media, create from Microsoft directly and follow the steps below,

  • Perform an Automatic Startup Repair
  • Boot from the Windows USB device, Disc, or DVD bootable media
  • Firstly, click on "Repair your computer."
  • Now, click on "Advanced Options"> "Troubleshoot."
  • Lastly, click on "Startup repair."

Execute a Startup Repair using Command:

  • Firstly, click on "Repair your computer."
  • Now, click on "Advanced Options"> "Troubleshoot."
  • In Troubleshoot option, click on "Command Prompt."
  • Now, Run the following commands as per sequence,

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /rebuildbcd

  • If the issue is not fixed with the above commands, then try below in the given sequence:

bootrec /scanos

bootrec /rebuildbcd

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

Execute a System Recovery or Factory Reset on PC:

You can execute the above fix with the help of bootable USB software,

Note: System Recovery reformats the system drive, reinstalls the original operating system, and installs all the original hardware drivers and software.

Factory Reset removes all partitions, reformats the entire hard drive, installs the original OS, and reinstalls all the initial hardware drivers and software.

  • Download the media creation tool from Microsoft as per your specification (64bit & 32bit).
  • Insert a USB drive into your device.
  • Once the file is downloaded, click on the "MediaCreationTool.exe."
  • Select "Create installation media for another PC," then click next
  • Select the language as well as the edition of windows and choose bit (64/32 bit), then click next
  • Now, select "USB flash drive" and click next
  • Select the USB drive and click next

Windows media creation application will download the files.

  • Then, click finish, insert the USB into the machine with Error Code 0xc00000f and restart the machine.
  • Once booted, select your language and keyboard input and click next.
  • Then, click on repair your computer > Troubleshoot > advanced options > Startup Repair
  • Select the target OS & wait for the process to complete
  • Lastly, remove the USB drive from your PC and reboot.

The error code 0xc00000f 'Required Device isn't Connected or can't be Accessed.' will now be resolved. I hope the fixes above help you overcome the error.
