lmillar Posted November 13, 2003 Report Share Posted November 13, 2003 My XP Pro is generating an error everytime I start up my computer. The dialogue box reads "Runtime error 5 at 0040437F". To what does the "Runtime" refer to and can anyone suggest a fix or at least a resource where I can learn about runtime errors. How is a "runtime" error different from other errors? I notice that everytime I start up my computer Windows Media Player is launched which it never did before and so it may be related to that. Any advice would be appreciated. -pops- Posted November 13, 2003 Report Share Posted November 13, 2003 You could put the term into Google and see what it comes up with.I've just done that and the result is not very clearcut but there are suggestions that it may be due to spyware, a virus or some recently installed poorly programmed software.You ought to have an antivirus setup already. jdross95 Posted November 20, 2003 Report Share Posted November 20, 2003 My computer started up with the same error "runtime error 5 at 0040437F". I found that it is coming from MSupdate.exe. I went to msconfig and removed it from the startup and it no longer comes up. As to what causes this error. I am still unsure. Hope this helps some.
