andsome
"Where there's muck, there's brass." English proverb. - Spam: annoying but lucrative - Oxygen3 24h-365d, by Panda Software (http://www.pandasoftware.com)Madrid, November 19 2003 - The Register has reported an interesting study byTelus International(*) reveling the profitability of spamming, despite thefact that only 50 in every million recipients take the bait. According to this report, response rates barely reach 0.005%. This meansthat for every one person interested in receiving the information, there arearound 20,000 people wasting time downloading, reading and deleting themessage, not to mention the waste of resources (bandwidth, storage space,etc.).Despite these low success rates, spamming is still a profitable activity as,unlike postal mail, mass-emailing is extremely cheap. In fact if only one ina million replied, it would still be cost effective, the survey concludes. At present there is no global solution for unsolicited mail, although thewar is being fought on many fronts: law-makers, ISPs, and developers ofanti-spam tools for servers and end-users. Panda Software is also involvedin the fight against spam and has recently launched a new family ofsolutions to protect against viruses and other Internet threats includingspam.More information on Panda Software's new family of solutions is availableat: http://www.pandasoftware.com(*) More info from: http://www.telusinternational.com/Download/spam.pdfNOTE: The addresses above may not show up on your screen as single lines. This would prevent you from using the links to access the web pages.
