Hurdy Posted December 7, 2003 Report Share Posted December 7, 2003 I replaced my CMOS battery last month because I was getting Checksum errors and everything was OK. Last night the PC crashed and when I rebooted I again got Checksum errors but I couldn't even re-enter the correct date and because it was late I decided to leave it until the morning. This morning the PC would not even POST so I unplugged it and went off to purchase another battery. I was mithering 'cos I was beginning to think new PSU etc. However,when I replaced the battery it booted up fine - I went into the BIOS and entered my settings and it's been OK so far. Has anybody ever experienced a PC not booting because of a failed battery? And if the batteries are failing quickly is this a sign of a deeper problem? I bought three new timer/control batteries (same type as CMOS batteries) in succession for a camcorder before I had one that lasted for more than a week. The final one has been in now for four years.It may well be then that your first replacement may have been a dud.One thing you could check as well is that the CMOS "clear" jumpers are not in the reset position.
