kyprosman Posted December 8, 2003 Report Share Posted December 8, 2003 first time to this site so hello all, i have amd athlon xp 2000 on a msi nforce2 motherboard with arctic 2 cooler, with the msi motherboard came a utility called pc alert4 wich gives my cpu temp reading 50c idling, when i'm doing anything on my pc ie: working on photos or resizing the temp go'es up to 57c/58c could you tell me if it is running at the right temp thank you Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted December 8, 2003 Report Share Posted December 8, 2003 This temperature is absolutely fine. You can work safely up to 90 deg. and perhaps a bit higher. Above that there could be problems.A modern system like yours will shut istelf down before damage is done by overheating although it is better that it doesn't have to do that, obviously.Keep an eye on it occasionally if you're concerned but don't get overly worried.BTW :welcome: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Grim Reaper Posted December 9, 2003 Report Share Posted December 9, 2003 from the fact that you are using PC Alert, i am assuming that you have an MSI motherboard.I purchased an MSI mobo earlier this year, and was commonly experiencing temps of 55+ degrees. I bought a Coolermaster X-dream heatsink and fan and also a new case which succeeded in reducing the temp by about 5 degrees. I then decided to run the MSI auto update utility which told me that there was a BIOS update available that cured the faulty CPU temp reporting fault. I installed the update and hey presto the temp dropped by another 5 degrees.........My advice would be to check on the MSI website whether there is a BIOS update available, the installation process is extremely simple, you only need a floppy......However, as pops says, the temps you are experiencing do not really represent a problem. kyprosman Posted December 9, 2003 Author Report Share Posted December 9, 2003 forgot to mention in my post, i upgraded my bios to the latest version using the msi utility,also the heatsink & fan are suitable for up to a athlon 3200xp.
