[RESOLVED] - Recovering Outlook Emails

I had a catasrophic failure whilst running windows xp pro this afternoon which led to a Blue Screen of Death.

When rebooting after instructions to do so from the system, i was left with a message informing me that there was no boot instruction (or something along those lines)

This meant that i have had to install a spare HDD into my machine and reload XP onto it.

Having reinstalled my old HDD (with XP on it) back into my machine as a slave, i find that all progs are still there, and all data seems to be there, but it simply wont boot.

However, there are a few emails on the outlook that i need to keep, is there any way of accessing these emails from my old XP installation??

Outlook stores a file (all your emails, address book) in a PST file:

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

You can import this file.

Plus any others in the folder.

File, Import and Export...

It will erase anything [in my exp.] that you already have in Outlook so back them up before you import.

As for non booting we'll need the whole message it gives. You could try F8 at startup and try Last known good configuration.

thanks powerless, i'll give that a go.

With the non booting i'm not too worried as i have just stuck in another HDD of equal size and reinstalled. It wouldnt even get as far as trying to load windows, it looked like the boot sector of the drive became corrupt.

If you have a 98 startup disk, boot from it and type:

fdisk /mbr

press enter.

IF not boot from the XP CD and go into the Recovery console and type:

fixmbr

press enter.
