does anyone use NTL broadband

Recommended Posts

My nephew rang me just before Xmas as he had just been connected to NTL broadband, he said the engineer had connected him and left him with a cd to finish of the instillation but when he put the cd in it just closed down. So he got in touch with NTL who said he needed a usb adaptor as the cable box is used as the broadband modem. Surely if this is true the engineer would need to connect to the cable box to set it up?. What is the usb adaptor for?. HE was told it would take 7 days to send the adaptor and then to ring the helpline to set it up, as he is new to computers he is worried that he will not be able to follow what he is told to do. all I can tell you about his computer is that he is running windows XP. Any replies will be gratefully accepted. I got him to open the command prompt and type ipconfig/all and it said cannot access, that is when he was told by NTL about the USB adaptor

i had NTL Broadband installed last week. The engineer left me with an installation CD and an ethernet to USB adaptor. You do not actually need the installation CD at all to connect to NTL broadband, i am typing this having just completed a reinstall and the NTL disc hasnt been near my machine, it all self configured. (i do have AV and a firewall installed though).

The cable box is used as the modem, it is an ethernet connection to and from the box, hence the need for an adaptor if there is no Ethernet connection on the PC.

The actual steps to set up the PC with NTL Broadband are very self explanitory and i found it uncomplicated to set up so there should be no worries on that point.

The questions i would have is what actually closed down when the cd was put in and does your nephew have an ethernet port?

:o :o Thanks for the quick reply. I got it wrong about the cd closing his computer down, apparently when he switched on it was asking him for the set up cd and task manager would not close it down so he had to press the reset button. I have rung him and told him about the adaptor and that you said it was easy to set up.
